The Value of a Subscription

I’ve listened to authors over the years as they’ve highlighted their books and platforms. Not only just the authors, but also what people would call content creators period. That was more than just a buzzword. It became so popular that you knew, especially watching the most popular, I would say, video sharing channels on YouTube, when someone said that they were a content creator and then you looked at their views, oh you knew they were just that. No matter what type of videos they were actually creating, from the how-to’s or the funny comedy to the seriousness of documentaries to everyday vlogs.

Yes, we’ve actually had our favorite people, probably who we would watch their vlogs and gained a chuckle from them. Even some tidbit of helpful information, whether they were creating some type of cooking show or recipe or milkshake, whatever it is. It was something that you look forward to every week, if not every day, from that person.

Yes, one video. Oh, I’ve seen now it became so popular for some people that individuals or fans just wanted to know every time they posted, or if there was some sort of special information they were sharing privately and not public circulation.

For example, you may have had a person say, “My mother or my father or someone in my family told me something,” or “I want to share with you a story about when I was younger. And so you listened to it. Why did you listen? It wasn’t just about the content itself, or the entertainment value, or the educational value; it was the connection that you felt with that person. It was the fact that you felt like you knew them. You felt like you understood them. You felt like you were part of their journey in a sense, or you were traveling alongside them on their journey.

And I think that is something that is very special. And that is something that I don’t think that people really truly understand or appreciate the value of when it comes to subscribing to someone’s work, whether it is a YouTube channel, Spotify, website, buymeacofee.com, whether it is a newsletter, whether it is a blog, or whether it is a service.

And I feel it is important for people to understand that when they subscribe to someone’s work, when they become a subscriber, they are not just getting access to content. They are getting access to a relationship. They are getting access to a connection. They are getting access to what some people call a process or journey. It depends on the tier levels of access they offer.

And I think that is something that is very valuable. And I think that is something that people should think about when they are deciding whether or not to subscribe to someone’s work. Kind regards,
James Lynch
