Good Teachers are Skilled With Time
Can a person be a proficient driver, if they pay no attention to the signs along a route?
A person may be able to drive a car from slow to high speeds while making quick turns and stops. Have you ever seen a dune buggy or car in the dessert with no restraints? Whoa! How the driver is able to enjoy himself on the open desert when no one is around! Onlookers from afar may even say the person is handling the vehicle quite well.
However, when that same driver comes back to the road where he has to apportion it with civilians, can he still do the following:
Make doughnuts (going around and around) in the middle of the road?
Go through stop lights?
Go backwards on one way streets?
What will the comments on this driver’s skill of handling the vehicle in the dessert and now the driver’s performance around civilians be?
Will he be seen as a good driver by the instructors who teach driving courses?
So it goes with being a good teacher of students. Instructors who are conscientious of time in the classroom and public speaking environment will be a refreshment to the pupils. This is surely an important ingredient to being a sound instructor. Skilled with the use of time.
No matter how fine the subject is you are teaching to students if the proper amount of time is not given to each topic for the day you can lose some of the students. Over time, it will become an irritant, because the pupils will not know what to anticipate and how to participate if it involves student’s interaction.
Yes, a good teacher realizes a respect for time is not optional. Because it is important to get the valuable topics taught in a logical and organized way. Otherwise, the teacher may be out in a dune buggy enjoying his or herself while kicking dust in everyone’s face as an irritant.
Why such a visual metaphor of good and bad timing results? It has to be. Because a respect for time is showing respect for the subject matter and the people in your classroom and auditoriums.
