The Pen. A tool that is made out of feathers, plastic, wood, and ink. So thin that even a little child can break it. So powerful that nations are ruled by the documents produced by it.

Learning how to write with a pen often starts in school. Just by learning to write A, B, C and 1, 2, 3 made a way for you to express your thoughts. Some continued to develop their art of writing with the pen by the use of Calligraphy. Merriam Webster Learner’s dictionary states it is ‘The art of making beautiful handwriting.’

Have you ever read a touching poem? Most likely you have. What about a story filled with emotion and drama? Sure you have! In this time period, we may not see the original writings often that were made with the pen. It is the digital age. The results of penmanship are seen in televisions, computers, and billboards.

Still, when we write it allows us to design a building or send a thank you to someone half way around the world. Have you heard someone say this before? “The pen is mightier than the sword.” Is such a statement true? Well, let us examine what the pen can do when wielded by someone who wants to accomplish much good with it.

The Pen

· Optimistic and kind words are placed on paper

· Documents are made to guide people

· Thoughts are preserved longer than when the person spoke them

· The letters from the pen exerts a powerful influence to free the masses in an sympathizing and empathizing way

Now let us take a look at the sword.

The Sword

· Used throughout history as a weapon to coerce and hurt people

· A truthful and positive application of the sword is used in a figurative sense mentioned here in the Holy Bible: Hebrews 4:12

Think about this point for those of you who are in school. You have to know that your labor to convey thoughts through reading and writing is not wasted. As you articulate your thoughts with the pen, other writings by the pen (books, documents, websites) will take on more meaning for you. Do not discount books that were written centuries ago.

Ahh, the power of the pen is not in the pen itself, but the wielder’s intentions of the heart.
